The map is not the territory

The original maps of the London Underground simply traced the layout of the city itself. Then, in 1931 the engineering draftsman Harry Beck had a revolutionary idea: he redesigned the map as a schematic diagram with stylized lines and regularly spaced stations.
"The map is not the territory", said Alfred Korzybski, founder of the theory of general semantics.
