Take the "A" train
New York had a population of 70,000 in 1800 rising to 7 million in 1930... The city has avoided grinding to a halt only through the development of its transportation systems. Metros, trains, buses, taxis, bicycles... and cable car: the system is so efficient that New York boasts the lowest car ownership rate in the United States: only 25% of Manhattan residents have a car compared to the national average of 92%.
