City Hall Station
Very soon mass transit infrastructures started to make their mark on the urban landscape and quickly became part of a city's image. Looking to attract more customers, the first private metro operators made an effort to decorate and brighten up their infrastructures. The Interborough Rapid Transit Company in New York planned an elegant terminus for its first Subway line. City Hall Station, adorned with a glass roof, colored mosaics and chandeliers, was opened in 1904.
